Summer Volunteer Opportunities

Below are two summer volunteer opportunities students can use toward community service hours –

Tutoring:

Join Children's Literacy Center in providing FREE individual tutoring to children reading below grade level! Tutor one child, two hours a week and help that child become a successful reader. Using the Peak Reader® curriculum, tutors target each child’s specific reading needs and work to improve his or her reading level over the course 6-weeks during the summer. Tutoring is held in Pueblo at Goodnight Elementary every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. and begins June 16th. Training is provided for all volunteers 14 years of age and older.

To sign up call Children’s Literacy Center at (719) 471-8672, or send an email to pamela@childrensliteracycenter.org. Visit their website www.childrensliteracycenter.org for more information.

State Fair Ambassador:

The Colorado State Fair Foundation is looking for outgoing, personable, responsible young adults, who have an interest in being an integral part of the State Fair’s success. They will document your service for required volunteer hours and would be happy to serve as a reference when appropriate. As a member of this ambassador group, you will be required to complete the necessary training and work a minimum of (2) two hour shifts during the Fair.

In return for your service, you will be given a gate pass for yourself each day you volunteer, an additional gate pass for that day, and a parking pass for that day if necessary. In addition, if you volunteer a total of 20 hours (including training) during the course of this year's Fair, you will be given a free carnival ride band. Please take a moment to consider the requirements. If you feel you are a good fit for the Ambassador Program, fill out the application on their website: http://www.coloradostatefair.com/p/Get-Involved/228. Applications will be reviewed in a timely fashion, after which you will be contacted regarding your participation in the program. If you have any questions please contact Courtney Singleton at 719-404-2098 or by email at cofair.interns@gmail.com.
